Arlington prices continue ascent; region's tallest building to Tysons; Where to watch game 3; & more

"The Arlington County, Virginia, housing market continues to get more expensive, and potential buyers continue to have fewer and fewer houses and condos to consider. Long & Foster’s monthly market snapshot shows there were 193 sales in Arlington County in September, down 13% from a year earlier, and the number of homes on the market, currently at 268, is down 52% from last fall."


Move over, Capital One – a new Tysons skyscraper is now on track become the region’s tallest building. Clemente Development Co.’s massive View at Tysons development, to include the 600-foot-tall Iconic Tower, earned unanimous approval Tuesday from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.


"Didn't score a ticket to the first World Series home game? You can still get in on the action just outside the ballpark."


"On Saturday, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved a plan to develop a 19-story building on the one-acre Verizon site at 400 11th Street South (map). The building will deliver 306 residential units above 10,653 square feet of ground floor retail. There will also be a 148 parking spaces across three below grade levels, as well as 123 residential and 18 retail bicycle spaces."


Longtime Old Town Alexandria Italian restaurant Landini Brothers, at 115 King St., is marking its 40th anniversary Oct. 28 by taking diners back to the past. The family-owned restaurant, founded in 1979, is bringing back for one night only the original menu that waiters brought to diners’ tables. And that means 1979 prices at the Virginia restaurant.


"If all goes well, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be opening in about three weeks. The new ice cream shop is replacing Misha’s Coffee at 102 S. Patrick Street, with Misha’s moving earlier this year to 907 King Street. A manager at the site said Jeni’s plans to open by Wednesday, Nov. 13."


"The Renegade, the restaurant and live music venue opening on Thursday, Oct. 24 in the former Mister Days space, is already jam-packed with dishes from around the world."


"The outdoor clothing and gear company Patagonia will open in the spring of 2020 in the former Old Town Theater."


"The specific designs for two new waterfront restaurants have come into focus since preliminary plans were approved in March. The restaurants are a bit off the beaten path from the King Street dining scene. Both are located at the former Robinson Terminal South site as part of the new Robinson Landing development. One of the restaurants is based in a historic warehouse at 10 Duke St. and the other on a pier on the Potomac River."


"Graham Bartlett is no stranger to DC’s Mexican food scene. He spent years working as regional executive chef for restaurateur Richard Sandoval, at spots like El Centro D.F. and Masa 14. Then, he moved to the small-plates-driven Buena Vida in Silver Spring, owned by another Sandoval alum, Ivan Iricanin. Now, Bartlett is planning a Mexican place of his own. The casual Taco and Piña will open at the Village at Shirlington in early 2020."


"Mortgage rates rose to their highest level in 12 weeks, according to the data released Thursday by Freddie Mac, with investors continuing to react to the possibility of a positive resolution to the ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China."
